Office 365 August International User Group Meeting Recap

Today we held the Office 365 International User Group August meeting. We had good attendance despite that fact that yours truly did not have a robust schedule setup. I apologize for this and blame it on my recent travel schedule, I will ensure that the September meeting will have a much more structured schedule and presentations.

Back to today's meeting, I gave an overview of the recent new features and functionality in Office 365. I basically recapped my recent blog post on the same subject. We did have some good discussion on this and was a good recap of the new stuff available in Office 365. I then moved on to discuss the big announcement from the Office 365 team relating to SkyDrive Pro and SharePoint Online (I plan on getting a more extensive blog post on this subject as soon as it is available in my tenant). As you can read from the link, Microsoft has more than tripled the amount of storage a user will have in SkyDrive Pro from 7GB to 25GB with the ability to expand to 100GB. Also in the announcement was the fact that Microsoft is increasing the file size upload limit to SharePoint Online and SkyDrive Pro from 250MB to 2GB and also that now all shared files to a user will be aggregated to a new view in SkyDrive Pro labeled "Shared with Me". Again this was widely discussed in the meeting and met with extreme satisfaction.

Darrell Webster (@DarrellCWebster) mentioned another new feature in Lync, Q and A Manager. This is a pretty cool new feature, we used it via my Catapult On-premises Lync 2013 meeting that I use to host the IUG meeting, and need to verify that the functionality exists with Lync Online meetings. This feature allows for managing questions and answers in a more detailed manner than just having attendees post questions in the IM area of a meeting.

The remainder of the meeting consisted of several open discussions, lots of Partner issues including new requirements and limitations and support issues. Overall a good meeting, but again not one that I am proud of from a presentation stance. Please let me know what topics you are interested in either learning about, or hopefully presenting on. Always looking for new presenters and ideas for presentations to the IUG.

Even though Martina joined late, I still remembered to record the meeting, you can find the recording here!

Hope to see and hear from you all in the September meeting!
