MMS 2018 looks like it is going to be a wild technology ride!

As I work through my prep for this year’s MMS it looks like it’s going to be another great year at the Midwest Management Summit (May 14-17 at the Mall of America)! This year I have focused on new technologies and again I have the opportunity to co-present with some extremely talented speakers and technologists. The sessions and speakers for this year include:

Automation for Good – Using MS Technologies to Help with Emergencies: with Donnie Taylor

Join Cameron and Donnie as they show you how your work can have major impact in your users everyday lives. Consume weather information in OMS to alert your fellow employees to major weather events such as hurricanes and tornadoes. Send Flow notifications for unfortunate events like ‘Active Shooter’ and ‘Lockdown’ to your users so they can get to safety. Find the best evacuation routes from disaster areas using Azure Functions and available map APIs. This session will have examples that can have real impact on the safety of those around you.

  • How to use available 3rd party APIs in various Microsoft tools to help ensure the safety of you, your coworkers, and those around you.

A Hitchhiker’s Guide to the new Language for Log Analytics with Brian Wren

Log Analytics just got a new language, but don’t panic! The change is totally worth it and allows you to analyze data collected in Log Analytics and Application Insights in ways that were previously impossible without external tools. So grab your towel and join us for a look at some of the more advanced features of the new language. We’re not content with just ad hoc queries and basic data though. We’re going to look at some methods for collecting data from alternate sources and then get creative in the way that we perform our analysis.

Better, Stronger, Faster – Your Business Apps in Azure with Robert Hedblom

During this session Cameron and Robert will walk you the benefits and pitfalls when it comes to empowering your business leveraging the concepts of public cloud services such as Microsoft Azure. Learn from other’s mistakes as there isn’t enough time to make them all yourself! After this session you will be enriched with insights of how you start your public cloud journey or your next step forward towards a more efficient organization. With both Robert’s and Cameron’s shared knowledge you will gain a perspective on how to get started or to enhance what you may have previously done. Learn what building blocks there are that you can work with and how you can redesign your on-premise business services towards Azure Cloud concepts.

Monitor and Shape Your World with Log Analytics

This OMS suite is just useful for work stuff, right? Still not looking outside the box on the capabilities of Log Analytics? Well prepare to be dazzled! This session will be packed with real life scenarios that demonstrate the versatile power of Log Analytics as your one stop insight-generating machine. Step out of the boundaries of your office and explore the world outside! See how easy it is to get the data and monitor your world with Log Analytics! Monitoring Azure PaaS with Steve Buchanan

Your DevOps team has built a new app on Azure PaaS. They have come to you and need help monitoring all the moving parts. Uh-Oh! How do you proceed? What options do you have? Azure has so many monitoring tools what can and should you use? Come to this session for a deep dive with Cameron Fuller and Steve Buchanan to learn how you can leverage out of the box monitoring tools on Azure to monitor applications built on PaaS in Azure.

What you will learn:

  • How to monitor PaaS services in Azure like web apps, and SQL as a Service.
  • A best practice look at the monitoring options available in Azure.
  • How to run real world tests on PaaS applications to gain insight via telemetry.
