Integrating Savision Live Maps into Service Manager 2012 (#SCOM, #SYSCTR, #Savision)
So you have an Operations Manager environment with Savision Live Maps and you thinking about integrating Live Maps with Service Manager 2012? Here’s the quick gotta-know to get it configured.
Software acquisition and Installation
First, download Live Maps (available from http://www.savision.com/download). The installation for the Savision Live Maps ServiceManager components are both included in the ServiceManagerIntegration folder as shown below. In addition, Savision has written an excellent guide which goes through the installation process (Service Manager Integration Guide.pdf).
Assuming Live Maps is already functional in Operations Manager, install the Service Manager integration on your Service Manager Management server (not the data warehouse management server). The details are included in the Installation section of the Service Manager Integration Guide.pdf so I won’t go through a lot of detail but here’s the highlights:
1) Install the appropriate version of the ServiceManager Integration software.
2) In Administration / Settings, configure the Live Map Settings (if your Live Map settings appears with no icon and properties will not open for it, close and re-open the Service Manager console).
3) Configure the Live Maps Connector.
4) Verify that business services appear correctly, and change management integration works.
What does it do?
In Administration / Settings, the Live Map Settings option is added as shown below:
This provides the screen to configure the current Live Maps URL information as shown below:
In Administration / Connectors, the Live Maps Connector is now available to be configured:
(The list of Live Maps will vary depending upon what maps are in your environment of course)
In Configuration Items / Business Services / All Business Services – based on what is configured as business services that are synchronized.
Also, in the tasks section, the Live Maps link is available which will open the appropriate Live Map (Open Live Map).
In Work Items / Change Management an option is available to Open Affected Services as highlighted below.
If a service is affected, the service can be opened using the open button shown highlighted below, and then the Live Map can be opened using the “Open Live Map” button.
NOTE: If you hit the error below (Error 1001. Object reference not set to an instance of an object) make sure that Service Manager is functional and that you are logged in as an account which is an administrator in the same domain as the Service Manager management server.
