QuickTricks: Changing the URL for Alerts in OpsMgr

The Alert view link which is sent in the email notifications provides a link to the alert in the web console that is defaulted to the netbios name of the server. As an example, this is a sample alert in the environment before the change:

Alert: DNS 2008 Resolution Time Alert

Source: {SERVER.DOMAIN.COM}

Path: {SERVER.DOMAIN.COM}

Last modified by: System

Last modified time: 3/30/2009 9:01:59 AM Alert description: DNS Server {SERVER.DOMAIN.COM} is experiencing performance issues.

Alert view link: "http://{WebConsoleServer}:51908/default.aspx?DisplayMode=Pivot&AlertID=%7b09bf3159-c57e-4b98-8849-ee93200a0fb1%7d"

Notification subscription ID generating this message: {80F209DF-575A-6362-E9A0-9FEEBB8F17F4}

The link would not work in the environment because DNS was not configured to append this particular domain name. To work around this we changed the setting in the OpsMgr console under: Administration / Settings / Web Addresses / Web Console.

Changed from: http:// {WebConsoleServer}:51908/default.aspx

Changed to: http:// {WebConsoleServer.Domain.Com}:51908/default.aspx

Summary: Want to change the alerts sent via email to use the fqdn? Change the Web Console web address setting available in the OpsMgr Console under: Administration / Settings / Web Addresses / Web Console
