Updating T-Mobile Wing on Windows Server 2008

I was running an older version of the ROM available for my T-Mobile Wing. My phone was consistently out of free space and it was driving me crazy! After the update, my storage has about 15.82 mb of free space, and program has 9.68 mb of free space.

I had attempted to update the ROM in Windows Vista x64 but was unsuccessful. I spent a bunch of time getting this working so I figured I would blog it so hopefully nobody else will need to track this down! This ended up working very well however on Windows Server 2008.

Please note: this process is destructive to the data on the phone. Backup everything before doing anything of this nature. Also, I have no idea if this is a supported approach to do this upgrade/it worked for me but no promises. A good quick reference on this for most operating systems is available at:

Steps required:

1) Download and install the Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1 drive for Windows Vista (a list of these depending on the version is available at http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/results.aspx?freetext=windows+mobile+device+center+6.1&displaylang=en&stype=s_basic).

2) Download and install the new ROM version for the T-mobile wing available at: http://www.t-mobile.com/wmupgrade/DashPopup.aspx?PAsset=Dev_Pop_WingUpgrade&Device=acc8102d-4506-4eaa-bc2f-9c7b8ec1b1e0

3) This program reboots the Wing, and you will need to re-setup the device to your configuration including re-aligning it as this is a complete reset of the device.
